Baby and toddler classes in Surrey and Hampshire

At The Mummas Village, we want our classes to be somewhere you and your little one both look forward to coming along to each week. A place to play, explore, learn, laugh and make friends, with a sense of community that lasts well beyond your time in class.

Whilst we might be called The Mummas Village, our village is for everyone. Dads, partners, grandparents and other carers are every bit as welcome. Whoever you are, if you're caring for a little one, there's a place for you here.

Which class is right for my baby's age and stage?

Wondering what to expect when you come to class?

Our sessions are always baby-led, so we follow your little one's lead and go with the flow. Feeds interrupt songs, nappies need changing and sometimes babies sleep through the whole thing. Toddlers have their own plans! None of it needs an apology, and there's no pressure to join in with everything.

How our baby & toddler classes are shaped

There's a lot of thought behind all the fun in our baby and toddler classes.

Drawing on evidence-based early years knowledge, we carefully plan activities to support your child's physical development, communication, confidence and early social skills. Our classes are grouped by developmental stage rather than just age, with familiar routines to help little ones feel secure and plenty of new things to discover and get excited about each week.

Our teachers are all mums themselves, bringing their training and knowledge alongside plenty of real-life parenting experience. With small groups and the same familiar teacher each week, there's time to get to know you both, celebrate those lovely little milestones and offer reassurance through the harder days.

Above all, we want our classes to be a joyful part of family life. Somewhere to get out of the house, enjoy being together, have a laugh, make friends and feel part of a community that extends beyond the classroom.

From birth to 4 months | Fourth trimester support | Newborn development | Gentle touch | Practical postnatal information | Time to talk

Those first few weeks with a new baby are a lot.

Me & My Newborn is our gentlest class, created specifically for the fourth trimester when your baby mostly wants to feed, sleep and be close to you, and you’re still finding your feet together.

It’s a class created for you, more than your baby, with practical, evidence based information to help you build a toolkit of resources as you navigate those early weeks and months.

We explore topics including:

  • newborn behaviour
  • infant sleep
  • colic
  • reflux
  • postnatal wellbeing
  • weaning
  • practical tips including early baby massage, reflexology and soothing techniques you can use at home.

There’s plenty of time to ask questions, share how your week has really been, (without judgement), and meet other parents at the same stage.

And there is absolutely no expectation for your baby to participate in a certain way. They can sleep, feed, cry, cuddle or spend the entire class attached to you. That’s newborn life.

Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, this is a soft place to land while you get to know the newest member of your family.

Positive touch | Bonding and connection | Relaxation | Songs and gentle movement | Baby led

A lovely first class to enjoy together during those early months.

Across the course, we gradually build a full body baby massage routine, giving both you and your baby time to become familiar and comfortable with each new technique. We also weave in gentle movement, songs and simple sensory play designed specifically for younger babies.

Positive touch is a gorgeous way to connect with your baby and can support relaxation, body awareness and bonding.

You'll also learn massage techniques that may help:

  • ease wind
  • constipation
  • general tummy discomfort

Many parents find regular massage supports their baby's sleep too.

Everything is led by your baby. If they’ve had enough massage, you stop. If they need feeding, cuddling or to sleep, that’s exactly what happens. If they cry, it doesn’t matter. There’s no expectation for your baby to lie perfectly still on a mat for an hour.

You’ll leave with simple techniques you can keep using long after the course has finished, alongside plenty of time each week to chat, connect and get to know the other parents in your group.

Stage based development | Movement | Strength and coordination | Songs | Sensory play | Lots of fun

This is where things start getting a little livelier.

Sensory Baby Yoga combines songs, sensory play and baby yoga movements to support your baby as their physical skills begin to change rapidly.

Because a baby learning to roll has very different needs from one crawling across the room at speed, our classes are grouped by developmental stage.

Activities are carefully chosen to support the skills your baby is working towards right now, including:

  • tummy time
  • rolling
  • sitting
  • crawling
  • eventually standing and taking those first steps.

Through movement and play we work on:

  • strength
  • coordination
  • balance
  • body awareness
  • spatial awareness
  • plenty of opportunities for babies to move and explore at their own pace.

And is if that wasn’t enough, there is plenty of age-appropriate sensory stimulation thrown into the mix too, including:

  • bubbles
  • parachutes
  • puppets
  • lights
  • sensory fabrics
  • songs
  • weekly themes
  • and the very important business of finding out What’s in the Box?

As babies grow, we introduce more adventurous movement too, including some of our much loved gentle baby acrobatics.

There’s lots of familiarity from week to week so babies begin to recognise what comes next, alongside plenty of new things to keep curious little brains interested.

This class was previously called "Sensory Song & Stretch."

Songs and rhymes | Sensory play | Communication | Social development

For curious little explorers seeking a little more independence.

Sensory Rhyme Time is designed for increasingly inquisitive and independent babies who are ready to explore things in their own way and thoroughly investigate the world around them.

We deliberately build in some “free range baby” time at the beginning of class, so whether they’re on the move or not, they have the freedom to explore however they like.

They might crawl, shuffle, cruise or simply take it all in from the comfort of your lap.

Then we come together for a more structured session of:

  • songs
  • rhymes
  • movement
  • sensory play

Using puppets, props, instruments, parachutes and plenty of other things for curious hands to investigate.

And yes, What’s in the Box? makes an appearance here too.

Alongside all the fun, we’re supporting early communication and language, listening, imitation, coordination, confidence and those very first social skills.

There’s a familiar structure to each class, with different themes and sensory experiences to discover each week. There’s no expectation around how your little one “should” participate, and plenty of opportunity for you to chat and connect with other local parents at the same stage.

This class was previously called "Sensory Song & Rhyme Time."

From sitting unaided until those first steps | Music and song | Taste safe messy play | Sensory exploration | Baby led | Zero clearing up at home

If your baby wants to explore everything with their hands, feet and, inevitably, their mouth, they’re going to fit right in here.

Music & Mess is designed for babies who can ideally sit independently and have started their weaning journey.

We begin each class with a mix of all the bits you love from our sensory sessions, songs, puppets, props, parachutes, bubbles and more, before getting gloriously messy with a different themed play experience every week.

Our food based, taste safe messy play gives babies the freedom to:

  • squish
  • smear
  • scoop
  • splash
  • explore a huge variety of textures using their whole bodies and all of their senses.

There’s no pressure to eat anything. Simply touching, smelling and playing with different foods and textures gives babies the opportunity to become familiar with them in a relaxed, playful environment.

Messy play is brilliant for:

  • sensory exploration
  • curiosity
  • fine motor skills
  • hand eye coordination
  • gives babies the freedom to investigate cause and effect in the way they know best. By making an enormous mess.

Best of all, they get all the joy of messy play and you don’t have to clean your kitchen afterwards.

We think that might technically count as a public service.

For confident walkers | Movement and coordination | Music and song | Imaginative play | Sensory exploration | Early social skills

Welcome to the toddler years, where sitting still is optional and apparently walking anywhere normally is deeply unappealing.

Tiddlers & Toddlers is our lively class for confident walkers, packed with:

  • music
  • movement
  • sensory play
  • imaginative adventures

Each week we explore a different theme through songs, props, puppets, games and activities, with plenty of opportunities to climb, balance, dance, move and explore.

We’ve taken all of the most loved elements from our baby classes and woven them throughout our toddler sessions, creating just enough familiarity and repetition for children to know what’s coming and feel confident joining in, alongside new themes and activities to keep things exciting.

Underneath all that fun, we’re helping little ones:

  • develop coordination
  • balance
  • gross and fine motor skills
  • alongside communication, listening
  • early social skills.

Simple games involving stopping and starting, waiting, taking turns and following familiar routines also gently support the developing self control they’ll increasingly need as they move through the toddler years.

And this isn’t a class where you sit at the edge watching.

We encourage grown ups to be very much part of the action because we know that when you join in, not only does your little one feel more confident to do the same, but that’s where some of the most joyful moments are created for you both.

It’s energetic, playful and sometimes slightly chaotic.

Basically, toddlerhood in class form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing a class can bring up all sorts of questions, from when to start to what happens if your baby sleeps through the whole thing.

We’ve answered some common ones below. If yours isn’t here, get in touch. We’re happy to help.

Questions about Baby & Toddler Classes

  • How soon after birth can we come along?

Me & My Newborn welcomes babies from birth. There’s no rush, though. Come when you feel ready, whether that’s in the early weeks or a little later.

  • How do I choose between Me & My Newborn and Baby Massage?

Me & My Newborn focuses on the early weeks together, with practical support and space to talk while your baby feeds, sleeps or cuddles.

Baby Massage focuses more on learning a massage routine to enjoy together. If you’re unsure where to start, drop us line and we can help you choose.

  • How do I know which class suits my baby’s stage?

Age is a starting point, but what your baby is doing matters too. Whether they’re starting to roll, sitting, crawling or confidently walking, our baby and toddler class page will help you explore the options. If you still have questions then get in touch as we are always happy to help.

  • Should I use corrected age when choosing a class for my premature baby?

Corrected age can be a helpful guide, alongside your baby’s current development and any advice from their healthcare team. Tell us a little about your baby so we can help you find a suitable starting point.

  • Can another parent, grandparent or carer bring my child?

Yes. Either parent, grandparents and other carers are welcome to bring your little one to a baby and toddler class. If someone is coming in your place, just let your teacher know.

If you’d like another adult to come along with you, please check with your teacher beforehand, as space varies between venues.

  • Is there a booking option for twins?

Yes, twins are welcome throughout our baby classes, and we only charge for one place. Just let your teacher know you’ll be bringing double the fun so they can prepare your space.

  • What are the options if I need to bring a sibling?

We know finding childcare for older children can make getting to class tricky. Our baby sessions are designed around the developmental stage of the babies taking part, so we usually can’t accommodate siblings, apart from twins.

Siblings are welcome at Tiddlers & Toddlers, and we sometimes run family sessions during school holidays too. Drop your local teacher an email to find out what’s available in your area.

  • What if my baby needs a feed or nappy change during the session?

Feed them, change them, cuddle them. Our classes follow your baby’s lead, so breastfeeding and bottle feeding are always welcome, with no need to wait for a break. For older babies and toddlers, we ask that food and snacks are kept for before or after class.

  • What should I do if my baby or I have an allergy?

Please let your teacher know about any allergies before you come along, and keep them updated if anything changes.

For Music & Mess, contact us before booking so we can discuss the materials and foods used. We’ll do our best to find suitable adaptations, but what’s possible will depend on the allergy and your individual circumstances.

  • Could we join a class while my baby is wearing a Pavlik harness?

Yes, we’ve welcomed lots of babies to our classes while they’re wearing a Pavlik harness. If your healthcare team is happy for your baby to take part, we can usually adapt activities so you can enjoy the class together with the harness in place.

Drop your teacher an email before booking so you can talk through your baby’s needs and any guidance from their healthcare team.

  • What happens when we can’t make a session?

We know holidays happen and plans change, particularly with little ones.

Missed sessions aren’t generally refundable, but in some circumstances a catch up or class credit may be available. Let your local teacher know as soon as you can, and they’ll talk you through the options.
