I’m really lucky that I always knew I wanted to be a midwife, and had this drive to support women and understand birth.
I trained first as a nurse, and then did a midwifery degree. I’ve been practicing for 27 years, both in the UK and Australia in all areas of midwifery. In particular I’ve loved being in the community visiting women and their families at home, triaging women in labour ward with pregnancy problems, and most recently guiding women through planned inductions of labour. As a midwife I have supported more than a thousand women through every type of birth, and every single one has been memorable and joyful in some way!
I especially enjoy getting to know women and their partners and hearing about their pregnancies and how they’d like to give birth. As a mum of two who was lucky enough to have water births, I know the comfort of having a plan for your birth. As a midwife I also know being knowledgeable about your options if things don’t go as expected really matters too. That’s where excellent antenatal teaching comes in and prepares you and your partner ahead of time. And of course, after the birth, some knowledge about feeding and sleeping makes a big difference to the early weeks for all of you.
The Mummas Village advocates knowledge is power, informed choice, together with non-judgemental and realistic expectations. I look forward to welcoming you with a huge amount of support and helping you discover a village of friends throughout all of our classes."
