Baby and toddler classes in Surrey and Hampshire

At The Mummas Village, we want our classes to be somewhere you and your little one both look forward to coming each week.

A place to play, explore, learn, laugh and make friends, with a sense of community that lasts beyond your time in class.

Babies change so much in their first year, and our classes reflect that. We group by stage, not just age, from the earliest weeks through to the chaos of toddlerhood. All of our classes draw on evidence based early years knowledge to support your babies physical development, communication, confidence and social skills. Familiar routines help little ones feel safe, with plenty of new things to discover and get excited about each week.

Our groups are deliberately small, with time in every class to chat, ask questions, swap stories and have a laugh. All our teachers are mums, bringing practical knowledge, a down to earth approach and reassurance for the harder days. With the same familiar teacher each week as your child grows, we’ll get to know you both and become your family’s biggest cheerleaders.

Fun, developmentally appropriate classes from birth to the toddler years.

With a baby led approach to all our sessions, we follow your little one’s lead and go with the flow. Feeds interrupt songs, nappies need changing and babies sometimes sleep through the whole thing. Toddlers have their own plans! None of it needs an apology, and there’s no pressure to join in with everything.

Our hope is to become an anchor during your maternity leave and beyond. Amongst the distractions and endless to-do lists, our classes give you both a familiar, welcoming place to enjoy being together, get a bit silly and make joyful memories along the way.

And while we’re called The Mummas Village, our classes aren’t just for mums. Dads, grandparents, partners, nannies, childminders and other carers are all welcome. A village is made up of lots of different people, and there’s a place here for everyone.

From birth | Fourth trimester support | Newborn development | Gentle touch | Practical postnatal information | Time to talk

Those first few weeks with a new baby are a lot.

Me & My Newborn is our gentlest class, created specifically for the fourth trimester when your baby mostly wants to feed, sleep and be close to you, and you’re still finding your feet together.

It’s a class created for you, more than your baby, with practical, evidence based information to help you build a toolkit of resources as you navigate those early weeks and months.

We explore topics including:

  • newborn behaviour
  • infant sleep
  • colic
  • reflux
  • postnatal wellbeing
  • weaning
  • practical tips including early baby massage, reflexology and soothing techniques you can use at home.

There’s plenty of time to ask questions, share how your week has really been, (without judgement), and meet other parents at the same stage.

And there is absolutely no expectation for your baby to participate in a certain way. They can sleep, feed, cry, cuddle or spend the entire class attached to you. That’s newborn life.

Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, this is a soft place to land while you get to know the newest member of your family.

Positive touch | Bonding and connection | Relaxation | Songs and gentle movement | Baby led

A lovely first class to enjoy together during those early months.

Across the course, we gradually build a full body baby massage routine, giving both you and your baby time to become familiar and comfortable with each new technique. We also weave in gentle movement, songs and simple sensory play designed specifically for younger babies.

Positive touch is a gorgeous way to connect with your baby and can support relaxation, body awareness and bonding.

You'll also learn massage techniques that may help:

  • ease wind
  • constipation
  • general tummy discomfort

Many parents find regular massage supports their baby's sleep too.

Everything is led by your baby. If they’ve had enough massage, you stop. If they need feeding, cuddling or to sleep, that’s exactly what happens. If they cry, it doesn’t matter. There’s no expectation for your baby to lie perfectly still on a mat for an hour.

You’ll leave with simple techniques you can keep using long after the course has finished, alongside plenty of time each week to chat, connect and get to know the other parents in your group.

Stage based development | Movement | Strength and coordination | Songs | Sensory play | Lots of fun

This is where things start getting a little livelier.

Sensory Baby Yoga combines songs, sensory play and baby yoga movements to support your baby as their physical skills begin to change rapidly.

Because a baby learning to roll has very different needs from one crawling across the room at speed, our classes are grouped by developmental stage.

Activities are carefully chosen to support the skills your baby is working towards right now, including:

  • tummy time
  • rolling
  • sitting
  • crawling
  • eventually standing and taking those first steps.

Through movement and play we work on:

  • strength
  • coordination
  • balance
  • body awareness
  • spatial awareness
  • plenty of opportunities for babies to move and explore at their own pace.

And is if that wasn’t enough, there is plenty of age-appropriate sensory stimulation thrown into the mix too, including:

  • bubbles
  • parachutes
  • puppets
  • lights
  • sensory fabrics
  • songs
  • weekly themes
  • and the very important business of finding out What’s in the Box?

As babies grow, we introduce more adventurous movement too, including some of our much loved gentle baby acrobatics.

There’s lots of familiarity from week to week so babies begin to recognise what comes next, alongside plenty of new things to keep curious little brains interested.

This class was previously called "Sensory Song & Stretch."

Songs and rhymes | Sensory play | Communication | Social development

For curious little explorers seeking a little more independence.

Sensory Rhyme Time is designed for increasingly inquisitive and independent babies who are ready to explore things in their own way and thoroughly investigate the world around them.

We deliberately build in some “free range baby” time at the beginning of class, so whether they’re on the move or not, they have the freedom to explore however they like.

They might crawl, shuffle, cruise or simply take it all in from the comfort of your lap.

Then we come together for a more structured session of:

  • songs
  • rhymes
  • movement
  • sensory play

Using puppets, props, instruments, parachutes and plenty of other things for curious hands to investigate.

And yes, What’s in the Box? makes an appearance here too.

Alongside all the fun, we’re supporting early communication and language, listening, imitation, coordination, confidence and those very first social skills.

There’s a familiar structure to each class, with different themes and sensory experiences to discover each week. There’s no expectation around how your little one “should” participate, and plenty of opportunity for you to chat and connect with other local parents at the same stage.

This class was previously called "Sensory Song & Rhyme Time."

From sitting unaided | Music and song | Taste safe messy play | Sensory exploration | Baby led | Zero clearing up at home

If your baby wants to explore everything with their hands, feet and, inevitably, their mouth, they’re going to fit right in here.

Music & Mess is designed for babies who can ideally sit independently and have started their weaning journey.

We begin each class with a mix of all the bits you love from our sensory sessions, songs, puppets, props, parachutes, bubbles and more, before getting gloriously messy with a different themed play experience every week.

Our food based, taste safe messy play gives babies the freedom to:

  • squish
  • smear
  • scoop
  • splash
  • explore a huge variety of textures using their whole bodies and all of their senses.

There’s no pressure to eat anything. Simply touching, smelling and playing with different foods and textures gives babies the opportunity to become familiar with them in a relaxed, playful environment.

Messy play is brilliant for:

  • sensory exploration
  • curiosity
  • fine motor skills
  • hand eye coordination
  • gives babies the freedom to investigate cause and effect in the way they know best. By making an enormous mess.

Best of all, they get all the joy of messy play and you don’t have to clean your kitchen afterwards.

We think that might technically count as a public service.

For confident walkers | Movement and coordination | Music and song | Imaginative play | Sensory exploration | Early social skills

Welcome to the toddler years, where sitting still is optional and apparently walking anywhere normally is deeply unappealing.

Tiddlers & Toddlers is our lively class for confident walkers, packed with:

  • music
  • movement
  • sensory play
  • imaginative adventures

Each week we explore a different theme through songs, props, puppets, games and activities, with plenty of opportunities to climb, balance, dance, move and explore.

We’ve taken all of the most loved elements from our baby classes and woven them throughout our toddler sessions, creating just enough familiarity and repetition for children to know what’s coming and feel confident joining in, alongside new themes and activities to keep things exciting.

Underneath all that fun, we’re helping little ones:

  • develop coordination
  • balance
  • gross and fine motor skills
  • alongside communication, listening
  • early social skills.

Simple games involving stopping and starting, waiting, taking turns and following familiar routines also gently support the developing self control they’ll increasingly need as they move through the toddler years.

And this isn’t a class where you sit at the edge watching.

We encourage grown ups to be very much part of the action because we know that when you join in, not only does your little one feel more confident to do the same, but that’s where some of the most joyful moments are created for you both.

It’s energetic, playful and sometimes slightly chaotic.
